Frequently asked questions about joining the Council:

What does it mean to be a member of the Council?

The Direct Care & Support Professional Advisory Council has worked with PHI National to create a specialized series of four engaging 2-hour training sessions, thoughtfully crafted to support the success of participating Council members.

These sessions, conducted online by PHI’s expert consultants, are designed to bolster your confidence and hone your professional leadership skills. Our training equips you to express your opinions with assurance in public settings, refine your public speaking abilities, craft compelling narratives, and authentically connect with diverse audiences, including fellow Council members, state department officials, legislators, and more.

Council membership is a one year commitment.

How will Council members be chosen?

To ensure the Council fully represents the diversity of Maine’s direct care workforce, members will be selected based on a range of factors, including geography, gender, race, citizenship status, job classification, and care setting.

Applicants will receive notification about the status of their application. If not selected for the Council, individuals may be invited to participate in a Direct Care Worker Support Group. This group will be kept informed of Council activities and may be called upon to support these activities. Opportunities for Council membership may arise from this group when openings occur.
